Artists Web Site

As a successful artist you will probably want to build yourself your own web site.

First you will need a domain name, most probably something like NameSurname.com. You can register it with a registrar.

Than you will need a place to host your web pages. It is hosted on a web server, the service by itself is called Web hosting.

Web hosting services often offer many additional applications, but one of most importatnt is CMS (content managing system), which allows you to add and change content of your web site. The other way is to have a software for building HTML sites on your computer and to use FTP to transfer them to the web server.

On your web site you will most probably have pages with:

  • CV
  • Artist statement
  • List of exhibitions
  • Artistic references
  • Articles about you
  • Articles and lectures by your own
  • List of art projects
  • Gallery of your works
  • Videos about your work
  • Contact data
  • etc.

Web site with your own domain is like a tie on a business meeting - it has no real purpose, but you just need it to look serious. In contrary to social media, blog and other community web activities, web site is a passive presentation. It means it is mostly visited only by people, looking exactly for data about you and your work.

Most likely you will need a professional to start your own web site.

To get more about new media and building a professional web site as an artist, try some of folowing books:
